About
Valentina Sinis is an Italian documentary photographer and visual storyteller whose work examines gender, conflict, and human rights across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Her practice is grounded in long-term engagement and an ethical approach to representation, focusing on the lived experiences of women and communities navigating conditions of political, social, and cultural constraint.
Working across photography and moving image, Sinis develops intimate, observational narratives that challenge dominant visual tropes and foreground questions of agency, identity, and resilience. Her projects often unfold in sensitive environments, where access is contingent on trust and where the relationship between subject and author becomes central to the work itself.
Her work has been widely exhibited and published internationally, including features in major global media and presentations at leading photography festivals and institutions. She has collaborated with organisations such as UNICEF and was a participant in the VII Photo Agency Mentorship Program (2018–2021).
Sinis is the recipient of numerous international awards and recognitions, including Female in Focus (2020) for Broken Princess, the World Press Photo 6x6 Global Talent Program, the Global Peace Photo Award shortlist, LensCulture Critics’ Choice, and multiple international prizes and exhibitions between 2025 and 2026, including awards at the Istanbul Photo Awards and Les Femmes s’Exposent.
She lives and works between Italy and internationally.
